In 1963, Dr. Jim returned to Honolulu to start his private practice as a head and neck surgeon. He was certified by the American Board of Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and senior member of the American Head and Neck Society. Locally, he was a past president of the Hawaiian Surgical Association and Emeritus Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Hawaii School of Medicine. Dr. Jim was predeceased by his wife Mardie, a former head nurse of the open heart surgical unit at St. Vincent’s Hospital, whom he met in Manhattan during his training. He is survived by his sons, Edward Emmet and Gregory Redmond. Dr. Jim loved traveling and during his outdoor leisure he loved taking care of his wife’s rose garden.
