Helen Larson Dalton - A Life Well Lived 1940-2020 Aloha ‘Oe to our dear Sister Helen. Helen was the first born daughter to Helen Rebecca Hadley and Victor Larson. She leaves a saddened family; sister Gail, niece Rebecca, nephews John, Will and Mark Hutchinson, brother Jon and nephew Derek Larson. Helen lived a life of service. She was actively involved for many years at Central Union Church where she often served as a “greeter”. She was a volunteer docent at Iolani Palace and enjoyed showing the tourists and local people our wonderful palace and describing our Hawaiian history. She was actively involved in the Order of the Eastern Star, an international social and charitable organization that focuses on character building to obtain salvation by good works including for the American Cancer Society and the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Helen was proud to have roots that go deep into the history of Hawaii through family members who moved to Hawaii from back East and California as early as the 1800’s to live and work. They each brought special skills to Hawaii with them and put the skills to good use for the benefit of Hawaii and its people. She enjoyed “meeter and “”greeter” roles welcoming new residents to Arcadia and taking special care of older residents who needed assistance and personal attention and companionship in their own daily lives. Helen was greatly challenged by the onset of Parkinson's Disease over twenty years ago. But she was thankful to be so well situated at Arcadia surrounded by her Arcadia "Family" and friends of so many years close by. Helen always said she was fortunate to have lived almost her entire life centered around a cluster of five institutions all within walking distance of each other: Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women & Children where she was born, Central Union Church, Punahou School, Arcadia (tr. a scene of simple pleasure and quiet), and the Order of the Eastern Star, all near the center heart of Honolulu. She abided and lived her life by the principals learned from these institutions. Her family is proud to say that when she needed us, we were there. Helen will occupy a special place in the hearts of family and her friends for forever and a day. A memorial service will be planned as soon as family members are free to return to Hawaii. Our fondest Aloha nui loa to Helen Larson Dalton for a life well lived.
