The family of Patrick Eugene Carmody, 81, is grateful to have been blessed with a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend until his passing on July 2, 2020. His intelligence, good looks, and playful sense of humor were matched with deep humility, kindness, and patience. Patrick was a true gentleman, and is greatly missed. Born on a dairy farm in Carrollton, IL, Patrick excelled as a boy in school and sports. He cherished the memory of being carried off the basketball court by his teammates after sinking a buzzer-beater, and later put his hook shot to use on myriad items destined for the kitchen trash. He was equally proud of being named “slowest bicycle rider” for his ability to balance motionless in the saddle. He joined the Army Reserves and worked his way through St. Louis University, even raising and selling a cow to help finance his studies. A CPA by profession, he was in private practice for the majority of a career that took him through St. Louis, MO, Mountain View, CA, and Honolulu, HI. He never forgot his humble roots, and made a habit of putting a few dollars in the pocket of his aloha shirt every morning, just in case he ran into someone in need. He was an avid fan of TheBus, believing that commutes are best spent napping, but he would occasionally walk home from Honolulu to Pearl City with his daughter, just to spend time together. He enjoyed traveling with family, including a cross-country drive through the US and adventures in Africa, Europe, and Asia. Patrick was very proud of the exceptional education he enabled for his daughters, and enjoyed watching them grow independent careers and families of their own. Patrick is survived by his wife of 46 years, Harriet (Okubo) Carmody, daughters Rachel Carmody (John Slyconish) and Christine Carmody (Adam McClay), grandsons Theo Carmody Slyconish and Bennett Patrick Slyconish, brother Michael Carmody, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Rose (Becker) Carmody. The family is thankful for the loving care that Patrick was provided by Cita Tuquib, Dr. Myron Shirasu, Chaplain Glenn Scheib, nurses Arlene Roche and Kau‛i Ka‛aihue, and the staff of Islands Hospice. A celebration of Patrick’s life will be held this Saturday, August 14, 2021 from 11:30 A.M. at the chapel at Diamond Head Memorial Park. With pandemic restrictions still in place, if you would like to join the celebration in person please email the number of attendees to [email protected] The program will also be streamed at https://tinyurl.com/PatrickCarmody for those unable to attend. The family requests no flowers, but in Patrick’s memory, and in keeping with what he would have appreciated, please do something kind for a loved one or stranger. Memorial contributions may be made to River of Life Mission or the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.
