September 30, 1927 - February 15, 2020
Celebrating the life of Rhobie Eleanore Kilbey-Franks who was born on September 30th, 1927, in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, to father Frederick H.G. Kilbey and mother LaVaina Apo Kilbey. Rhobie was the “firehouse” of her family and led an exemplary life. When her father fell ill to Parkinson’s disease, her mother became his full-time caretaker. With two younger siblings at home, Rhobie Kilbey-Franks “stepped up to the plate” by becoming the parental figure in the household and worked multiple jobs to ensure that the bills were being paid, food was on the table, and her younger brother and sister could continue their private education. As an air traffic controller supervisor at Pearl Harbor-Hickam Air Force Base, Rhobie’s natural leadership style was unparalleled in her professional career. She spent 40+ years dedicated to this work and still had extra jobs to ensure that her parents, siblings, and nieces and nephews had what they needed. She always called each of her siblings and to make sure everyone was doing okay. She enjoyed getting these updates regarding her ‘ohana. Family came first in her life. Rhobie Kilbey-Franks was 92 years old when she passed away on Saturday, February 15th, 2020, at Islands Hospice. Rhobie is survived by her husband, John Earl Franks; siblings: brother Frederick Henry George Kilbey III; sisters LaVaina N. Basco, Fredenalda K. Ching, and Carolouise K. Rondon; and stepsons Scott and Jonathan Franks. Although she never had any biological children of her own, Rhobie was a figurehead to many. She was strong, reliable, and a hard worker. She was a mover and shaker. Rhobie was honest, independent, and had a kind, heart of gold. Her life was fulfilling, impactful, and because of this, her legacy continues. We would like to say thank you to everyone who have gathered here together to remember the life of Rhobie Eleanor Kilbey-Franks. We appreciate your love, prayers, and support. Entombment service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2020, 12:30 p.m. at Diamond Head Memorial Park. Aloha attire.
