Valerie Tamaye Tanaka Manner

Valerie Tamaye Tanaka Manner 93, of Pearl City, Oahu, passed away on December 14, 2015. She was born on January 18, 1922 in Honolulu, Oahu to Tamejiro and Taka Maeda Tanaka. She was a dedicated mother to her four children, a warm grandmother to her grandchildren and extended family, a gifted artist, and an Educator in Oahu public schools. She retired from the State of Hawaii, Department of Education, as a Teacher. Valerie is predeceased by her husband, Christopher Bernard Manner, her siblings, Linda Yuriko Stapleton, Gary Nobuo Tanaka and Irwin Isamu Tanaka. She is survived by her sister, Myrna Michiyo Takasaki, as well as her children, Harley Manner (Mary), David Manner (Therese), Christine Manner and Marshall Manner (Sharon); 10 grandchildren, (Karen, Matthew, Brittany, Shana, Erik, Patrick, Kelsey, Kim, Kerry and Shane) and many great grandchildren. She lived at and received loving care from Aiea Heights Senior Living from 2012 to early 2015 and Aloha Nursing and Rehabilitation for the remainder fo 2015. Bristol Hospice provided for her during her final months. The family extends its deepest appreciation to the Staff of Aiea Heights Senior Living, Aloha Nursing and Rehab and Bristol Hospice for their dedication to Valerie's comfort and health. Special mahalo to Chaplain Bill Crockett of Bristol Hospice for his kindness to Valerie and her family, also to family friend Gordon Pi'ianaia who responded to Valerie's request that he sing Aloha 'Oe at her services. Private family services were held at Diamond Head Mortuary on Friday, January 22, 2016.
