John Carrington
Dear Family of Al Yoshiyama...
I served with Yosh in Libya in the fifties (542nd Engineer Co. Topographic Survey). His gentle and serene manner contradicted the whole Libya "campaign."
He shared his "care" packages from home with me and with others in our company and laughed at my reaction when eating the seaweed that he received.
He introduced me to eating a mollusk (perhaps a scallop) that he and fellow snorkelers pried from rocks in the Mediterranean Sea close to our tent city on Wheelus Air Force Base. Unlike the seaweed, they were very tasty.
I loved Al and enjoyed the comradery we shared.
I am saddened to learn of his passing.
