Amy Lam Young
November 2, 1919 to May 10, 2015
On Mother’s Day, May 10, 2015, Amy Lam Young passed peacefully at the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. She was 95.
She is survived by her sister Katherine Wong (David), sons Chester Young (Bee Tan) and Arthur Young (Lana), son-in-law Randall Kwock, seven grandchildren Joseph Young (Lee Ann), Shannon Young, Kimberly Young Taniguchi (Michael), Kerry Kwock, Kory Kwock, Rodney Kwock (Suki), Barry Kwock (Mona), and eight great grandchildren, Megan, Brendan, Blake, Nina, Mia, Ellie, Sienna and Victoria. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hood F. C. Young, January 2005, and daughter Audrey Kwock, January 2015.
Born and raised in Honolulu, Amy was the third of eight children of Charles Lam and Chun Shee Lum. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1938. She worked for the Honolulu District Court as a Court Reporter in 1950, and retired there in 1979.
She married Hood F. C. Young in June 1940, and they had a long and happy 65 years of marriage. They were best friends and enjoyed nearly 70 years of ballroom dancing, travelling and cruising all over the world.
Amy will be remembered for her quick wit, and her kind, nurturing ways. Even when her life was greatly challenged by Alzheimer’s disease, her sense of humor prevailed to the end.
Services: Visitation Tuesday May 19, 2015 from 1:30 pm to 2:30pm. Funeral service begins at 2:30pm at Diamond Head Mortuary Chapel. Followed by burial at Diamond Head Memorial Park.
