Barbara Schmid Linn's Obituary
Barbara Linn, a beloved Honolulu resident for over seven decades, passed away on November
24, 2024, at the age of 91.
Barbara was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and grew up in Seattle, Washington. She graduated
from Roosevelt High School and went on to earn two degrees from the University of Washington
—one in Sociology and another in Education. During her time at university, Barbara was deeply
involved in campus life, serving in numerous service organizations and as the Head "Yell"
Queen. She was also a proud member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.
In 1956, Barbara moved to Hawaii to teach at Kamehameha Schools. It was in Honolulu, at the
Outrigger Canoe Club, where she met the love of her life, David Linn. The two were married in
1957 at St. Andrew's Cathedral and raised two children together. Barbara was a loving and
dedicated mother, supporting her family with boundless energy and devotion.
Barbara was also a passionate athlete. A talented tennis player, she excelled in both singles and
doubles tournaments, becoming one of the top-ranked players in Hawaii. She was ranked as high
as #2 in the Open division and was a fixture in the competitive tennis community, representing
Hawaii in national tournaments and serving on numerous tennis organizations, including the
Hawaii Tennis Association. She also made lasting contributions to the tennis scene, organizing
and playing in countless local events and leagues.
Her love of competition extended beyond tennis. Barbara was a top-tier duplicate bridge player,
amassing an impressive collection of trophies and points over the years. She was also recognized
as a champion in both paddle tennis, tennis and bridge at clubs such as Waialae Country Club,
The Pacific Club, and the Outrigger Canoe Club.
Barbara was not only an accomplished athlete but also a philanthropist. She was actively
involved in the Junior League of Honolulu, where she contributed her time and talents to various
charitable causes.
Above all, Barbara will be remembered for her kindness, enthusiasm, and ability to bring people
together. She was a devoted mother to her children, Teri Linn Anderson and Robert David Linn,
and a proud grandmother to Andrew David Anderson and Alexis Leilani Anderson. She is also
survived by her brother, Stan Schmid, and sister-in-law, Lana Schmid, of Palm Desert,
California.
Barbara's legacy of love, generosity, and athleticism will live on in the hearts of all who knew
her. She was a champion in every sense of the word—on the court, at the bridge table, and in life.
A private celebration of Barbara's life will be held at a later date.
Barbara will be greatly missed by those fortunate enough to know her.
