Barry L. Shain, 77, of Honolulu, passed away on June 16, 2026
Born on April 2, 1949, in Boston, Massachusetts, Barry was the son of the late George and Florence Shain. After graduating from Boston University, he had many experiences which led him to create a better world through community organizing, advocacy, and philanthropy.
Hawaii became Barry's home for over 44 years, where he built not only a successful career but also a loving family. Raising his children was one of the most meaningful accomplishments of his life. He loved them deeply and had a lot of pride in the people they became.
Barry built a successful consulting business that helped raise funds for countless nonprofit organizations. Throughout his career, he championed causes that supported women and children, people experiencing homelessness, the LGBTQ+ community, the Jewish community, animal welfare, and environmental protection. His work touched lives across Hawaii and far beyond, leaving a lasting impact on communities throughout the world.
Barry was known for his big personality, sense of humor, generosity, and unwavering commitment to helping others. He had a unique ability to see possibilities where others saw obstacles and create this change.
He is survived by his loving partner, Keiko Jaffuel; his son, Jesse Shain of Las Vegas, Nevada; his daughter, Marley Rall (Shain); his hanai sister Barbara Bledsoe, and many other loving family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Barry's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, the causes he advanced, and the communities he helped strengthen. He will be remembered with love, gratitude, admiration, and the enduring impact of a life devoted to making a difference.
