Carmela Burgo's Obituary
Carmela “Clara” Burgo, 107, of Aiea, passed peacefully from this life as she slept at home on Oct. 30, 2023. Carmela was born in Kalopa, Hawaii Island, to Ramon and Nicomela “Mele” Salsedo. She was the 8th out of 17 children.
In August 1940, she married George Ingraham, a widower, and helped to raise his three children – Susie Claonan, George Jr., and Elizabeth Medeiros. After George’s death, Carmela married Ambrose O. Burgo in September 1954, a widower with three children – Ambrose, Manuel, and Lillian Ygueravide. She and Ambrose enjoyed a long and happy union until his death in 2002.
In her younger days, Carmela worked at Dole Pineapple Cannery and as a housekeeper. She also worked as a forklift operator and firefighter in Pearl Harbor during WWII until an injury sidelined her.
In her later years, she became a long-time and faithful member of the Aiea Assembly of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She treasured and took great delight in her family and friends. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Carmela is survived by her daughter Lillian Ygueravide of Texas, sister Margaret Ferreira, 28 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 29 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, at Diamond Head Memorial Park. 9:00 a.m. visitation and 10 a.m. service, followed by burial at 12:30 p.m.
