Cedric P.K. Pang's Obituary
Cedric Ping Kong Pang, 77 years old, peacefully died September 6, 2023, at home in Vista, California and will be laid to rest at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Hawaii. He was a software engineer and bridge director in Honolulu, Arizona, and San Diego. Family and friends enjoyed -- and will remember him for -- his loyal friendship, quick wit, and eagerness to try new ventures.
In addition to computers, he enjoyed growing plants, preparing and eating a culturally wide variety of foods, especially Chinese cooking; duplicate and tournament bridge; and most of all, keeping his friendships with `ohana (family) and friends.
His bridge journey started with an invitation at 12 years old that led him to becoming a master bridge player and director, often traveling to different parts of the country to play and direct in games and tournaments. He was quick to let you know of the joy and the many cherished friendships bridge playing afforded him as the best part of the game.
Cedric is best known in the San Diego area for his excellent job as a director and respected bridge player and pro. He had a talent for making people feel special and kept his family and friends close.
During the pandemic he became a master Lego maker often vying for the latest produced adult Lego from a Harry Potter compound to a Chinese Temple! His home became his Lego Museum.
He is survived by brother, Douglas Samuel T. S. Pang, sister, Melissa S. K. Pang; brother-in law, Clyde Y.M. Chun; sister-in law, Patricia K. Y. Tom; and 7 nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews, and a great grandnephew. His spouse of 44 years, Thomas Crawford White; parents, John K. C. Pang and Ruth K.T. Pung Ai Pang; sister, Mary Ruth C. S. Chun; and brother, Jackson K. S. Pang, predeceased him.
A private memorial and burial with military honors for both Cedric and Tom will be on October 3, 2023, at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu. A Celebration of Life will be on October 14, 2023, Central Union Church, 1660 South Beretania Street, 11 a.m.
