Charlotte Wahine Aukai Perez Smith's Obituary
Charlotte Wahine Aukai Perez Smith, 93, of Honolulu, died at home February 12, 2019. Born in Kapa'au, Kohala to John Nicholas Perez and Ah Lan Tim Sing Perez, the tenth of sixteen children. Charlotte was dedicated to and loved her family dearly, moving at times to help an ailing sibling.
A constant companion to young and newborn babies, caring and receiving numerous nephews and nieces and the children of those same nephews and nieces, Aunty Charlotte seemed to always have a child in her arms at family gatherings, a ready baby-sitter.
Aunty Charlotte was a floor manager at Pacific Laundry during the 50's and a staunch supporter of AAU swimming with her life's partner, William Maxmen Smith, until his passing in 1976. She also worked in the Hotel Industry and eventually retired from Kaiser Hospital in 1991. After retiring from Kaiser, aunty decided to work with her sister-in-law at Tsukenjo's for a few years.
She is survived by sisters: Florence "Flo" Perreira, Catherine "Kay" Crabbe, and Loretta Canonizado; son: William Jr.; granddaughter: Sarah Louise Lehuanani MacMonagle; great-granddaughter: Morgan Marye Noelani MacMonagle hanai sons: Ryan & Myron Fernandez: numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019, at 9:00 am followed by a Service at 10:00 am at Diamond Head Mortuary, 535 18th Ave., Honolulu, HI 96816. Burial to follow at 12:30 p.m. at Diamond Head Memorial Park.
