Sorry to hear of Curtis‘s passing. We dated almost 40 years ago. It was the early days, before his magic show, before all the videos. I remember him always rolling coins in his hands, working with cards and practicing and fine tuning his magic tricks. Back then our worlds intertwined at so many points; one of my Uncles was a magician, and Curtis had another Uncle’s deposition on his desk when he worked on asbestos cases. I enjoyed the meet ups with other magicians like Mike Ching, and Robert Ramos, who I already knew. One of his HS classmates attended Yale with him, that person was my father’s best friends son., who I had grown up visiting. He shared a birthday with my BFF and I with his father. About 20 years after I moved to the mainland, staying with my BFF in Kapahulu, on my visits back, I would weirdly always run into Curtis at Safeway.
Aside from magic; I have good memories of Sunday night dinners with his family. Popping in to see his grandmother at Ala Moana’s Crack Seed Center.
I am happy that he achieved so much in his Magic career, as it was his joy in life.
To the Kam family, I send my condolences and thanks for being kind to me when Curtis and I dated.
Bernadette “Berny” Lai.
