Grandpa didn't say too much, but he did make a point to be present at our important occasions. He was very practical - I remember telling him that I was excited to find a house for rent for $1300 and he thought I was insane. "That's too much!" The best memories I have of Grandpa is at the Kahala house. He would lay out newspaper and peel all the Haden mangoes so Grandmother could make her infamous mango pie. He would sharpen his knives to cut sashimi in the sink in preparation for family get-togethers. He was stern with us, but we knew he loved us. He often talked about living to be 100, just about there! Love you Kung Kung, see you in the Paradise.
