It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David Nohealani Chong, 65, on December 27, 2024. David, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, dedicated much of his life to service, spending 37 years with Hawaiian Airlines where he was known for his kindness, professionalism, and unwavering commitment. He touched the lives of countless colleagues throughout his long tenure, earning the respect and admiration of all who worked with him.
Born on September 30, 1959, David was the cherished son of Francis Makekau and the late Arthur Chong. He was a devoted brother to Helen Higaki and Kevin Wong, and an adored uncle to his nieces, Raynette, Raelene, and Rena. David’s warmth and sense of humor brought joy to his family, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
David’s love for Hawaii was reflected in his work, but also in the way he lived his life — grounded in aloha, with a strong connection to his community and family. Outside of his career, he was an avid traveler to Las Vegas and a lover of fishing.
David is survived by his mother, Francis Makekau; sister, Helen Higaki; brother, Kevin Wong; and nieces, Raynette, Raelene, and Rena. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who loved him, but his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched over the years.
