Dean Allerdice's Obituary
Dean passed away in Honolulu, Hawaii at age 79 after a short illness. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn (Wagner), a brother, Dwain of Everett, Washington, and nieces Tracy (Hirschler) of Isslaquah, Washington and Diane, of Seattle, Washington. He ws preceded in death by his identical twin brother Keith in January 2013, his brothers Bert and Lee, and his parents, Lowell and Mildred.
He was a gifted athlete, especially in basketball and track. As a senior at Snohomich High School in 1953, Dean was selected to the All-State basketball team. He went on to play basketball at Seattle University as a teammate of the legendary Elgin Baylor. He maintained a friendship with Elgin through his years as a super star in the NBA.
Dean served in the Marine Corps. Both he and Keith sold Cadillac cars in Seattle and Bellevue for many years. He owned the Round Table English Pub in downtown Seattle in the 1960's, a place that was later demolished to make way for high-rise buildings near the Grehound bus station. The Round Table was a popular upscale tavern that had jazz music, bagpipers, piano players, singers, and other entertainers, plus they served traditional English food.
After a vacation to Hawaii in (1966), Dean and Carolyn decided they wanted to live there. Carolyn still has an architectural business in Honolulu and he owned the Sleep Shop, a retain business selling beds and designer linens, before retiring a number of years ago.
Dean is remembered as a conversationalist with an interesting opinion on just about everything. He enjoyed the company of friends and family and spent hours on the phone talking with them.
