Yeh yeh was a good friend to us but a better friend to our dogs, especially our Gia. We’d stop by often and at random times when we saw Yeh Yeh, Sammy and Sparky in the garage. He always had a smile for us and welcomed our unannounced visits with much pleasure as we sat and watched the dogs together. One of our most recent and fondest memories of Yeh Yeh was a Gung Hee Fat Choy dinner at his house with Sammy, Sparky, and Gia. Oh, and Les, Ang and Dorothy. Gia quickly learned that you got good stuff from the table if you sat close to Yeh Yeh. When we were done with dinner, he said he was going to watch TV. As he was leaving the table, he put two BIG pieces of Kau Yuk in his hand. Dorothy said in a sterner voice than I normally am
accustomed to hearing from her, “NO! That’s enough.” Yeh Yeh looked like a kid who just got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He put the Kau Yuk on his empty plate with a small wink and pout. “Okay,” he said as he left the room with Sammy and Gia trailing closely behind. I turned to Dorothy and said, “Did he eat too much?”“Oh no,” she responded with a chuckle. “He was going to sneak it to the dogs!” We laughed out loud and I could see Yeh Yeh settle in his chair in the next room smiling as he looked down at his pleading pack of admirers. Any man who loves animals like Yeh Yeh did is a good man. We will always remember the compassion and respect he had for all living things and are grateful we had the chance to know and to spend time with him. One day we will meet him again and when we do we are certain he will have a pack of adoring pooches following him...
