Edwin Yew Mun Young's Obituary
EDWIN YEW MUN YOUNG
January 21, 1948 to May 9, 2026
Edwin "Ed" Y.M. Young, beloved husband, brother, brother in law, cousin, uncle, grand uncle, and dear friend, passed away with family by his side on May 9, 2026.
Ed was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, attended Kalani High School, and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration(BBA) at the University of Hawaii, Manoa. Soon after he acquired his BBA, Ed became a Distinguished Military Graduate from the Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC). First Lieutenant Edwin Young served our Nation in Europe, earning the Army's Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service. After 4 years of active duty service, Ed returned to Honolulu and joined the State of Hawaii Department of Human Resource Development. His dedicated career in personnel management spanned four decades. Upon retiring from the State, Ed enjoyed trips to the "ninth island", swimming, walking, leisurely reading and digital crosswords, dining out, community activities, and most recently, tai chi.
Ed grew up in a musical environment and excelled playing the accordion at an early age. He also developed a keen sense of responsibility early on; he regularly walked from his Aina Haina home and high school to Times market in Niu Valley for his part time job, and diligently walked home after work without complaint. As part of his responsible outlook, Ed steadily looked after the welfare of his family, relatives, and friends. He did this in a quiet, unassuming way. He was not one to seek credit for good deeds, although there were many selfless deeds that defined his character. Ed is cherished, and we miss him deeply.
Ed is predeceased by his parents, Kam Chin (Lum) and George Moo Chong Young. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his sister and brother- in- law Kathleen and Joseph Rozmiarek; brother in law Gary Kuroyama; nieces Lia Rozmiarek Held (James); Mari Kuroyama-Ton (Andy); Joni Kuroyama (Charles Okamura); nephew Ian Rozmiarek; grand nieces Peyton and Cassidy; numerous cousins and other relatives.
