Elsie Heu Ching's Obituary
Passed away peacefully at her home in Aina Haina, Honolulu, on September 19, 2019. 100 years old this past July. Elsie was born in Paia, Maui. Elsie was a woman ahead of her time. A mother of five, helpmate to husband Edward in his business. She worked as an Executive Secretary at the University of Hawaii Medical School, the YWCA, and at the Kapiolani Community College. An accomplished seamstress and a wonderful cook, she has been featured in Star-Advertiser articles and was instrumental in starting a 4-H club in Aina Haina. She was "Woman of the Year" of the South Oahu Extension Homemakers Council in 1989. But she was proudest of her decades of volunteer work with the Diocesan Altar Guild of Holy Nativity, the Episcopal Church Women (ECW), South Oahu Extension Club, and Palolo Chinese Home Women's Auxiliary, serving as President or Chairwoman of each organization at various times. Elsie was predeceased by her husband, Edward S.T. Ching and a son, Reginald K.Y. Ching. She is survived by her sons Ken W., Edwin K.W., Robert K.W. (wife Patricia) and daughter Mary S.L. Ching (husband Mark Ogle), grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
