I met Dee Square Dancing in approximately 1995 in Kapiolani Park, Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii. A group of us became close friends as we danced on Thursday evenings in the warm evening air while watching the sun set and then the stars and moon would come out. Norman was the caller and he made it so much fun.
I learned of her husband who was homebound and later met Larry who was not in very good health. She always took such good care of him. When he needed extra care and moved out of their home, she visited him every day.
Dee, Ernie (a friend of ours) and I would go to a restaurant in the Hyatt down in Waikiki for our birthdays and order lai chi martinis and lobster dinner. The one celebrating their birthday would get their age off their dinner bill. Ernie, who was getting close to 90, told the waitress: "Soon you'll be paying me to have dinner here." :)
I live in Chicago area now and several weeks ago was making lai chi martinis with a neighbor. I was telling the neighbor what good times I had with Dee and Ernie and other square dancing friends. So sad to hear of Dee's passing. Maybe she was
the one who put the egg in my head to make the martinis! We still talked several times a year, and always had a lot of things to laugh about. I will miss chatting with Dee. She was a dear lady. Just amazing as she battled with cancer so many times, and pushed forward with her macular degeneration.
My sincere condolences to her family and friends. In the journey . . .
