Francis Kahooukakaua Sing's Obituary
Francis passed away in Pālolo on June 8, 2023 at the age of 104.
He grew up in Palama, graduated from McKinley High School and retired as a federal civil
service employee from Pearl Harbor and Barberʻs Point. He worked at the Red Hill facility
during the bombing of Pearl Harbor (WWII) and is a Korean War Veteran.
Francis was an honored athlete in high school and through the 1940s. As a star basketball
player, he toured the islands with the original Harlem Globetrotters as the Hawaii all Star
opponents. Later he became a top bowler in the Oʻahu Bowling Association following his Hall of
Fame fatherʻs footsteps.
Born in Honolulu on July 17, 1918, Francis was predeceased by wife Elizabeth K. Sing. He
is survived by sons: Thomas Sing, Arnie (Sharon) Sing, Dr. David (Dr. Nalani) Sing of Hilo;
daughter in Law: Anita Sing of Northern California; grandchildren: Dr. Malia (Greg Reuter) Sing
of Santa Cruz, California, Maile (Kawika Ruelas) Sing, Pomaikaʻi (Heston) Kaʻaihue of Hilo,
Leimomi (Quintin Leong) Kaʻaihili Leong, Kamu (Hoapili) Sing, Waiʻolu (Shane) Peterson of Hilo;
and 11 greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Sam)Sing, and sister
Thelma Lee. Besides his wife Elizabeth, he is predeceased by grandson Kawika Sing; siblings:
Alma Sing, Maile Aiu, Rosina Akimoto, Richard Sing, Donald Sing, John Chang and Henry Eli.
