George Mililani Wai Nam Wong's Obituary
George Mililani Wai Nam Wong, 80, passed away on April 15, 2025, in Honolulu, where he was born and raised. A graduate of Kamehameha Schools, Class of 1963, George proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Firedrake from 1964 to 1970, with tours in Vietnam, Alaska, and ports along the West Coast.
Following his military service, George built a long and dedicated career in real estate and property management. He earned his Hawaii Real Estate License in 1990, and worked at Certified Management and First Hawaiian Bank before joining Hawaiiana
Management Company in 2001, where he served as a Management Executive until retiring in 2021.
George also found great joy in teaching and mentoring. Known affectionately as "Coach George", he began working with Punahou School's Afterschool Tennis Program in 1992 under Bernard Gusman. He taught and inspired students from kindergarten through high school, often saying the kids gave him "renewable energy".
He is lovingly survived by wife Margaret Katagihara; daughters Jen-L Wong Lyman (Mark) and Dawn-L Estrella (Jason); step sons Jasen H Katagihara and Aaron K Katagihara; sister Georgia Hiilani Wong and sister Winsome Ululani Wong Breen (deceased); and grandchildren Alyssa Ann Kehelelani Lyman, Haley Ann "Momi" Lyman, Ka'aumoana Estrella, and Aysha Lynn Estrella.
