Gilbert Kauilikopuamamane Shea's Obituary
Heaven received an angel on January 7, 2025, when Gilbert Kaui Shea, peacefully passed away at
the age of 93 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Gilbert was born on August 3, 1931, to parents William and
Hattie Shea who raised him alongside his eight siblings in Papakōlea Hawaiian Homestead on
the Island of Oahu. Gilbert (affectionately known as Tongie) was a devoted and loving husband
to his predeceased wife of 65 years, Carrie Palenapa Shea. Together, they raised their three
daughters: Cheyenne, Penny-Mae (deceased) and Cappy. At a very young age, Gilbert started
his working career as a diligent laborer for the Honolulu Roofing Company (HRC). Dedicated to
his craft, company leadership and fellow workers/friends, Gilbert retired after serving 45 years
at HRC. Gilbert was a very gifted and talented “kanaka”, but he was most notable for his gentle
demeanor, infectious humor, unwavering kindness and profound love for family and friends.
While Gilbert’s presence will be sorely missed, we pray that his joyful spirit for life will continue
to inspire all who knew and loved him.
