Gloria Ann Hasty's Obituary
Gloria Ann Hasty, 76, passed away on July 26, 2023, in Aiea, Hawaii. She was born on October 13, 1946, in Hawkinsville, Georgia to Daniel Webster Thompson, Jr. and Mary Christine Thompson (Coody). Gloria was a devoted daughter, caring sister, understanding friend, committed wife, dedicated mother, hardworking independent businesswoman, thoughtful community servant, and fully devoted grandmother.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles Lawrence Thompson, her husband Gerald L. Hasty, Sr., and her nephew William Matthew Thompson. She is survived by her brother Richard LeRoy Thompson (Demorest, GA), sister-in-law M. Faye McCord (Cartersville, GA), son Gerald L. Hasty, Jr., daughter-in-law Jeomhee M. Hasty (Honolulu, HI), nephew Charles Daniel Thompson (wife Nikki) (Athens, GA), and granddaughters Jayhee M. Hasty and Aeda M. Hasty (Honolulu).
Gloria attended Dublin High School in Dublin, GA on a college preparatory curriculum (class of 1964) and graduated from Brewton-Parker College, in Mount Vernon, GA in 1966, Cum Laude in Music. Her girl cousins close-in-age were like sisters to her. They enjoyed many exploits in middle Georgia which included recurring train rides to Washington, D.C. and back. Gloria was always fond of one of her earliest employments, in a small-town bakery. Her skill on the piano and church organ earned her a college scholarship. She married after college graduation and then worked as a wife and mother for nearly 15 years, managing many in- and around-the-house affairs and occasionally volunteering for half or full school years (usually as a teacher's aide) in Hall County, Georgia elementary, junior high, and high schools. She enrolled in night and weekend classes at Lanier Technical College (Gainesville, GA) as her interests and time allowed. She re-entered the workforce as a Certified Legal Assistant in a Gainesville, GA law firm in 1980. She established many enjoyable personal and professional relationships as she continued work as a CLA, real estate closing secretary, and private secretary to Hall County area attorneys and state judges (1980-2011). She also worked in the public sector as a Program Assistant in the Northeast Judicial Circuit, state of Georgia, on behalf of support to children from financially struggling households (2008-2011). Gloria was known by many in northeast Georgia as a realtor--especially as a buyer's agent, helping many hundreds of families find homes (1990-2012).
Gloria was a Baptist. Her favorite all-time activity was spending enjoyable time with her family at home. She also enjoyed in-home and live watching of sporting events, hosting and attending holiday gatherings, and periodic travels. Her personal hobbies included performing music, reading (and later audiobooks), shopping, baking and cooking, word puzzles, playing cards (especially forms of rummy and cribbage), and attending music, dance, and theatrical performances. In household affairs and pastimes, she advised her husband over the years on management practices for cars, boats, ATVs, campers and RVs, horses, cows, chickens, pastures, fishponds, and the family vegetable garden.
Gloria was blunt on the point of not wanting any memorial service after her death. She wished for those who knew her and cared about her to acknowledge her life by tending to others. Instead of memorializing her, Gloria suggested that family and friends donate personal time, money, and other resources to anyone considered in-need. She donated her time, services, and goods to a variety of charitable organizations in different parts of the state of Georgia. Her preferred national-scale charity was the Children’s Miracle Network
