My deepest condolences to the family and friends of this great man. I was a Spec 4 in the 82nd Abn Division from 1974 through 1976. I worked for him my last year at Ft Bragg as his driver, courier, .45 cleaner, and making sure he had freshly starched fatigues. He called me "Ernie" because other soldiers in the company said I looked like Ernie of the TV show My Three Sons. He always looked out for me and inspired me to be the best soldier I could be. I've never forgotten him or his kindness throughout the years. He made my time in the 82nd memorable and I thank God that I was a small part of Col. Okita's life. I will see him again one day in heaven and thank him in person.
