Ibrahim Elias Dik's Obituary
Ibrahim Elias Dik, 78, of Honolulu ,Hawaii, ended his struggle with pancreatic cancer on February 28, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Susan Dik, of Honolulu, and by his brothers Karim Anis, Fares Najem, and Adel Najem of Beirut, Lebanon.
Born in Lebanon on May 6, 1944, Ibrahim studied and graduated from the Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarchal College in Beirut, Lebanon. After graduation, he began his professional career with Middle East Airlines as a management trainee and subsequently as a manager for five years, and although his position in the company was distinguished, his ambitions led him to further his education in the United States in 1967. Ibrahim earned his BA and MA degrees in Economics at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, and his PhD doctorate in Economics at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Dr. Dik served within the UH system, including positions at UH-Manoa, UH-Hilo and more than 40 years as an Economics Professor and Discipline Coordinator at Kapi’olani Community College, where he served actively for many years in faculty governance in the Faculty Senate as well as leading two of KapCC’s accreditation committees across the college.
In 1981, Ibrahim married the love of his life, Susan Dik. During their many years together, the couple traveled extensively, culminating in more than 20 summers spent in Roum, Lebanon.
There will be a memorial service at 11 am on April 1, 2023, at the Diamond Head Mortuary, 535 18th Avenue in Honolulu. A funeral mass was held for Ibrahim Dik on March 5, 2023, in the family village of Roum, Lebanon. He will be laid to rest at the Maui Memorial Cemetery in Wailuku on Wednesday, April 12 at 2 pm.
