James "Kuni" Kunio Taniguchi's Obituary
James Kunio Taniguchi passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on
Monday, June 15, 2015 at his home, with his son, Gary, by his side. Jimmy or Kuni as he was known to his friends and family, was born on December 24, 1917, the eldest son of Shoichiro and Setsu Taniguchi in Hana, Maui. A man of many talents, he retired from Amfac as an estimator in the Glass department. Through his years in the building industry, he was a master carpenter as well, and through his knowledge of glass, did etchwork on glass and mirrors. Never one to charge for his artistic talents, he obliged people's requests for his work, without charge. His was truly works of love. Jimmy leaves behind his only son, Gary, a daughter Frieda Sen (R. Michael); four grandchildren, Reid Takeshita (Cheri Lee), Jon Taniguchi (Naomi), Jennifer Choo and Ryan Sen; five great-grandchildren lit up his life, Jonah Sen, Toby Takeshita, Sara Taniguchi, Kylie and Kyrie Choo. He also leaves behind two sisters, Ann Yatsushiro of Chicago and Margaret Miyashiro (Robert) of Maui. Preceeding him in death, two brothers, Harry and Paul, two sisters, Aiko Haimoto and Alice Duponte. His beloved wife of 75 years, Bessie Sakae, departed two years ago and will be awaiting his arrival when he goes home to the Lord. The family he leaves behind wishes to celebrate his life as he lived it, quietly, simply, and without regrets. A memorial service will be held at the Diamond Head Mortuary on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 with visitation at 5:00p.m. and service to follow at 6:00p.m.. NO flowers. Private inurnment will be held the following morning.
