James William Nurre's Obituary
James “Jim” William Nurre, age 79, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026.
Born in Los Angeles, California, on November 19, 1946, Jim lived a life marked by loyalty, kindness, generosity, humor, and patience. He was the beloved husband of Julie Chan Nurre and devoted father of Jason “Ikaika” Nurre and Devon Nurre (Justin).
Jim proudly served in the United States Army and Army Reserve for 28 years. Following his military career, he worked as an Account Executive for Xerox and Picker International for 30 years, where he was known for his ability to “close the deal.”
In his free time, Jim enjoyed sailing, playing softball, cooking, and watching satires, sports, and military documentaries. He also loved sharing his knowledge and experience as an instructor at the U.S. Army Reserve School at Fort DeRussy.
Friends and family will remember Jim for his charisma, generosity, photographic memory, and sharp wit.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Nurre; his son, Jason “Ikaika” Nurre; his daughter, Devon Nurre (Justin); his brother, Bob Nurre (Vicki); his sisters, Mary Ellen Diersing (Gary) and Pattie Jones; as well as many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rita Nurre, and his in-laws, Ernie and Nani Chan.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Diamond Head Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at 12:15 p.m.
Though Jim will be deeply missed, his love, wisdom, and memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
