Jan Foster Adam
July 27, 1953 – February 28, 2025
Jan Foster Adam (née Welch), age 71, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, at her home in Palolo Valley, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Born in Honolulu on July 27, 1953, Jan was the third of four children of Jeanne and Richard Welch. After a brief time on the mainland, her family returned to Hawaii in 1957, where she grew up surrounded by the beauty of the islands and the warmth of close family ties. Jan attended Manoa Elementary School and the University Laboratory School. In 1963, her family moved to Aina Haina, where she formed lifelong friendships and lasting memories.
As a young woman, Jan worked in the travel industry in Honolulu, sharing her love of exploration and connection. She later partnered with her first husband, Noa Lyons, to run a stage and lighting business, contributing to the vibrant creative community of the islands. After retirement, Jan continued to pursue her passions with energy and love.
Jan had a deep affection for animals and was rarely without a camera in hand, capturing the world around her as an avid amateur photographer. She had a quick wit, a generous heart, and a strong spirit that carried her through life’s challenges, including her journey as a cancer survivor.
She is survived by her loving husband, Braun Adam; her older brother, Clayton Welch; her sister-in-law Jenny (Thomas) Lanthier-Welch, nephews Joseph Welch and Joshua Lanthier-Welch and Christopher A. Welch; niece Leah Heyer; and several cherished grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Jeanne and Richard Welch; her brothers, Christopher Welch and Thomas Welch; and her first husband, Noa Lyons.
Jan will be remembered for her sense of humor, quiet resilience, and the deep care she held for those she loved. Her memory lives on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
A private memorial will be held by the family at a later date.
