Jason Paul Kapunahou Kamaliʻi
Devoted Father, Son, Brother and Friend
Jason Paul Kapunahou Kamaliʻi, 53, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024 in Honolulu, Oʻahu.
Jason was born on October 1, 1970, in Wailuku, Maui to Nathan and Jane Kamaliʻi. During Jasonʻs childhood, he was heavily involved in Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Due to his distinguished leadership skills and hard work, he was awarded the highest rank attainable in BSA, known as an Eagle Scout.
In 1988, Jason graduated from H.P. Baldwin High School. He was involved in his schoolʻs band and played trumpet. He also devoted his time to their high school soccer team and was their starting striker. He continued his education at Kapiolani Community College with a focus in culinary arts. Jason then transferred to University of Nevada, Las Vegas majoring in travel industry management.
Jason established his career within the food and beverage industry as a manager at Outback Steakhouse. He was involved in the opening of several Outback Restaurants including Waipio, Hawaiʻi Kai, Japan, and Kihei. He went on to work as a Sales Representative for Paradise Beverage allowing him to connect with restaurants on the Leeward side of Oʻahu and Waikiki. He was most recently employed at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in production machinery.
Jason continued his passion for soccer and valued his beloved father-daughter relationship by coaching Jamye Graceʻs soccer teams. Jason coached within the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), Hawaiʻi Youth Soccer Association (HYSA), and Major Island Soccer Organization (MISO).
Jason was known to be an avid 49ers fan. His weekends were spent playing golf with friends and family. Other hobbies he enjoyed were cooking and watching the sunset with loved ones.
Jason is survived by: his former wife, Danette Costales Aquino; daughter, Jamye Grace Kamakalehua Aquino Kamaliʻi; predeceased by his father, Nathan Kalei Kamaliʻi; mother, Jane Leilehua Kamaliʻi; predeceased by his brother, Darin Kalei (Megan)Kamaliʻi; and sister, Leilehua (Sheen)Ikegami.
Jason will be remembered for his aloha spirit and kindness to others. His laughter and gentle heart will truly be missed by everyone who knew him.
Visitation on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Service to follow from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm.
Dinner will be provided.
