Karen Elizabeth Mattner's Obituary
Mattner, Karen Elizabeth, age 59, of Honolulu, HI entered into rest on September 23, 2023. Karen was born in Gawler, South Australia on May 20, 1964, the daughter of the late Melvin and Valma (Marschall) Mattner. After schooling she entered into the Wine Industry in Adelaide before continuing her career in Melbourne. Karen was awarded a United States Alien Registration Card at which point she set off for multiple trips traveling the world before settling in the Napa Valley of California and continuing her career in the Wine Industry.
A trip to Hawaii ended with Karen becoming a resident of Waikiki Beach and eventually retiring from Southern Wine and Spirits of Hawaii. Karen was an avid swimmer and enjoyed swimming and diving off of Kaimana Beach and advocating for Hawaiian Sea Turtles, Hawaiian Monk Seals and a ban on plastics in the ocean. At the time of her passing Karen was passionately researching an article on the responsible prescribing and use of Mental Health medication.
Karen is survived and lovingly remembered by her Longtime Partner; Shawn Rubert of Honolulu, three sisters: Lynette Lavender, Janet Mattner and Dianne Mattner and her nieces Sheri Lavender and Claire Lavender.
Karen’s ashes will be dispersed in the ocean off the beach in Honolulu, Hawaii and also a beach in Queensland, Australia at future dates to be determined.
