Oshiro, Kathleen Teragawa's Obituary
Kathleen Teragawa (Tseu) Oshiro, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 3, 2026. Kathy was affectionately called Mei Mei by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was born in Waimea, Kaua'i on January 13, 1935. After her family moved to Honolulu, she became an avid dancer excelling in ballet, tap, modern dance, classical Japanese dance, and her beloved hula. When she was a teenager, she entered a talent contest dancing hula and won the grand prize of an electric refrigerator. She graduated from Kaimuki High School in 1953 and went on to receive a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and French from Brigham Young University-Provo in 1957. She retired after 30+ years of teaching high school, but went right back to teaching in special education in elementary school.
Vivacious and energetic, she remained active with her learning and teaching. She earned a black belt in karate and went on to win a gold medal for her 60s age group in a Karate Olympics in Sacramento, California in 1995. Kathy was a member of the Hawai'i Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK), an educator sorority organization and a staunch member of the Elks Lodge 616 as their Community Relations officer. She loved to dance Hula wherever and whenever possible.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Robert Oshiro; her four children, Darryl (Debbie) Tseu, Clayton Tseu, Jade (Kenny) Crown, and Li Anne (Philip) Tseu Duffy; numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Kathy was cherished by all who knew her for her kind heart and generous spirit. She is now dancing Hula in heaven.
