Kelly Kehaulani Reed's Obituary
The Epitome of a Mother
Kelly Kehaulani Reed was always very strong willed and hardly unshaken in her beliefs. The belief in God her savior, the belief in being a loving wife and the belief in being the strongest mother any child could ask for.
Born in October 6, 1961 her mother Barbara Naihe and father Ralph Simmons brought a force into this world unlikely to be seen again (with the exception of her children). Brought up in the church and ever a devout Catholic her principles started forming with Aloha always in her heart.
Raised in the heart of Kaimuki she always had a sense of adventure in her. Her athletic ability granted her more adventures earning a scholarship to play Volleyball in Arizona but found her home calling her eventually becoming a Rainbow Wahine playing for the University of Hawaii. She earned her degree in kinesiology and teaching.
She eventually met a man while taking photos for Waimapuna a halau by kumu Darrell Lapinui. The man played music for the halau. They were friends at first eventually going on a date where this man was the first man to treat her right being the first man to pay for dinner. A true gentleman, Robert Reed.
The couple married in 1985. They worked on their respective careers. Suffered many ups and downs . She endured many heartbreaks suffering miscarriages and a death in her baby Kaycee. Kelly suffered with Robert being the supportive husband. Eventually having her dream of being a mother come true in 1993, 1995 and 1996.
Working at a video store becoming dear friends with Emerson, a shirt store Peacock Partners in Lahaina Maui, a paralegal for Davis, Reid & Richards & Stewart Cowen where she got to drive a Jaguar and fell in love with the car, working the front desk and catering at the Hale Koa Hotel where she made many lifelong friends. Eventually getting her dream job of working for United Airlines that opened the world to her and the sense of adventure that she has had all her life.
She was ever a chef cooking for her family every day and night. You could always count on her to have something ready to eat the second you came into her home. Flavors from all over the world no dish was too complex for her to attempt. All flavors from around the world from authentic Italian pasta, Shawarma wraps from Turkey or her ever popular cake noodle. You could travel the world in her kitchen.
Her food, her lust for adventure and exploration led her to many places around the globe. She's traveled to Italy, Germany, France and the occasional stop over to Disneyland she's blessed her children and family with an amazing life with the ability to get up and go on the drop of a dime. One day you could wake up half way around the world and have a plate of food ready to start your morning.
Kelly Kehaulani Reed has lived a full life on her short time on this Earth. She is survived by her loving husband Robert Reed and her three children. Her first daughter Kelsey who gave birth to her three grandchildren Emma, Kaimi and Kapiko'okalani. Her only son Kody who carries on her legacy of exploration working for Hawaiian Airlines and ever the charcuterie master. And her baby Kaylee who represents her tenacity for getting things done and her taste for food mastering her mothers most popular dishes.
