Lawrence C. Chang & Peggy Y.J. Chang's Obituary
It is with SAD HEARTS, we announce the passing of our parents
Lawrence Choy Chang
Born November 27, 1927
Died March 17, 2019
And
Peggy Tom Chang
Born June 22, 1929
Died March 2, 2019
Choy was employed by Dole Can Plant as a mechanic. Peggy by First Hawaiian Bank Waikiki and Kapahulu branches, State of Hawaii Department of Budget and Finance and Kapiolani Community College. They both retired at age 62 and were fortunate to enjoy a nice long retirement.
Dad was able to enjoy his hobbies full-time; such as orchid growing and we were able to enjoy a yard full of beautiful colorful orchids for years. Then one day he said “You can't eat orchids!” so he switched to farming vegetables. He grew a variety of things: bittermelon, winter melon (the longest measuring 36 inches!) green onions, tomatoes, kohlrabi, eggplant, cucumbers, ginger, beets, kai choy, bok choy, etc. which he enjoyed sharing with neighbors and friends.
Mom, was an indoor gal, a very good bowler in her younger years, and a smart investor of their money. A credit to mom for the investment portfolio that kept them comfortable in their retirement. She kept the household running smoothly paying all the bills on time and keeping files. We are grateful for her meticulous file keeping, which makes it easy for us to find the documents we need without a hitch. She was also a collector of bottles and jars of all shapes and sizes; a clipper of newspaper articles of interest and coupons. She didn’t cook much but the dishes that she did cook she did very well!
It is with GRATEFUL HEARTS we, their children, Rhonda Chang-Schoknecht , Kenneth Chang and Donna Chang-Dinh wish to thank our parents for all the love and support that they gave us throughout their lifetime.
With Mom passing on March 2nd, Dad had a difficult and lonely two weeks, he joined her on March 17th. Together in life for 70 years, it is with JOY in our HEARTS we know Mom and Dad no longer feel the pain of separation and are together again – for all eternity.
Choy and Peggy are survived by their children: Rhonda (Olaf) Chang-Schoknecht, Kenneth (Paula) Chang, Donna (Ritch) Dinh. Siblings: Sun Chang, Tuck Chang, Walter Chang, Margaret Chang-Tong and Robert (Mabel) Tom. Grandchildren: Christopher Schoknecht and Benjamin Chang, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by their parents Chong Chang and Kam Chong Yuen., Hong Sut Tom and Kam Hing Chang Tom, brothers Kwai Chang, William Chang, Ernest Tom, and sister Emma Tom.
Their joint Celebration Of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at St Patrick's Church, public visitation 10:00-11:00 A.M., followed by the eulogy, and Mass at 11:30 A.M. Aloha attire.
