Lin Shun Louie's Obituary
Lin Shun Louie
November 11, 1939 - August 9, 2025
"Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head"... One of THE original Manapua Man of the early 1970s played this tune over his loudspeaker while he canvassed for customers working at new construction sites and neighborhoods all across Oahu selling his manapua and porkhash from the trunk of his red Dodge Colt station wagon; Later upgrading his lunch wagon ride for a bigger, white GMC Vandura. Lin Shun Louie, 85, of Honolulu, peacefully passed away on August 9, 2025. He was born on November 11, 1939, in Doutou District in Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province, China.
Lin Shun was affectionately called "Ah Ba" (by his 5 children) "Gung Gung" (by his 8 grandchildren) or "Louie" (by people who just couldn't remember his first name!) — he responded to all by Cantonese, Chinglish or Pidgin he learned on the streets of his beloved Tan Heung Shan (Hawaii), which he always called home.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sing Pui and Yin Chun; Sisters Lin Oi (Chung) Ho and Lin Kiu (Hon Po) Yong.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Yuet May; Children: Susan (Reynold) Hong, Sarah Louie, Sherman (Kris) Louie, Sherwin Louie and Stella (Gary) Lockwood. Grandchildren: Aspasia Hong, Tyler Momohara, Jayden Matsui, Christian Louie, Jenna Louie, Joseph Louie, Brandon Lockwood and Alison Lockwood; Hanai daughter: Yuet Chun (Ji Qiao) Liang, fur baby "Lam", including numerous nephews and nieces.
