We had the privilege meeting Masako and having many fun tennis matches with her in Kahala. She was so welcoming and energetic. She had a keen eye for decor, and we enjoyed relaxing between games, sharing snacks and admiring her beautiful garden and decorating projects. Our thoughts and prayers are with Masako and her family.

Not having heard from her lately, I was wondering and just found out today Aug 26 that sadly she had passed away. I am choked… Please receive my sincere condolences. We met her 20 years ago at Monaco France train station. A very lovely lady. We will miss seeing her in Kahala during our yearly vacations. Masako rest in peace from Barbara. Hoping I could get in touch with one of her daughters.

I met Masako a few years ago via my tennis buddies at Ala Moana Beach Park and she was kind enough to invite me to her home on several occasions to play doubles tennis. What a dream to have a beautiful tennis court right next to your home! I appreciated her love of tennis and her competitive spirit. What I also recall is that she would often hint at her age but never felt totally comfortable disclosing her actual age. "Oh, I am much older than you can imagine." It was very endearing. Safe travels Masako!
To Masako, with tenderness
Life brought Masako and me together almost ten years ago. My husband and I were rallying at Ala Moana Park when she appeared, full of energy and joy. I invited her to join us — and that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship, which lasted until my last message on April 23, 2025.
Every Sunday morning, Masako welcomed us to her private tennis court, a place she treasured deeply. But our time together went far beyond tennis: we chatted about everything — fashion, decorating, gardening, birds, French lessons, travel… After Wimbledon, she dreamed of attending Roland-Garros in June.
Our little princess always had a thousand plans: home projects, getaways, new recipes… She was proud of her path and all she had accomplished. A true tennis enthusiast, she knew everything about the game, the players, the tournaments. Masako was truly timeless.
Lately, her silence left me feeling uneasy… far away, in the dark, I had a sense that something was wrong. Was she already by my side in another way? A princess-angel, perhaps?
Masako, we will miss you deeply. Thankfully, the connection lives on through your daughters.

To Masako and her family,
I just wanted to express how grateful I am to have had the chance to know Masako personally and to play tennis at her place. She was always happy to invite us over for some tennis. I also had the chance to stay at her home for a few weeks and I had a great time getting to know her and sharing moments
together.
