Matthew Laroya's Obituary
Matthew Laroya, age 33, passed away peacefully under hospice care on Saturday, May 8, at his home in Kaimuki, surrounded by family. He was born in Honolulu, and is survived by his Grandmother Helen, Mother Arlene, Brother Christopher, Sister Sharyce, Bother-in-law Timothy and Uncles and Aunties.
When growing up, he enjoyed watching Jeopardy. He would be the first to answer all the questions and was extremely excited to learn more. His love for Jeopardy led him to later join a group of friends who participated in Trivia events. In addition to Jeopardy, he also enjoyed watching all types of sports including football. His favorite team was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers which he was excited to see them win Super Bowl LV.
He graduated from University of Hawaii at Manoa with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance. He worked at Bank of Hawaii as a Trust Operations Specialist for over 10 years. He loved volunteering in charities and events that were sponsored by Bank of Hawaii. Matthew loved to hang out with friends and travel. He would travel every year to Japan. He enjoyed visiting Akihabara the most. While visiting many cities in Japan, he explored Japanese culture through music, pop culture references and especially food. He would come home with different flavors of KitKat’s as omiyages to share with everyone. Matthew also had the opportunity to host a Japanese radio
show which he was able to share his knowledge to others through his podcasts.
A walk through will be held at Diamond Head Mortuary and Memorial Park on Saturday, June 26, 2021. Friends and family are invited to walk through the chapel to pay their respects from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. There will be no dress attire restrictions. Due to COVID restrictions, guests are unable to remain in the chapel and for safety, social distancing and face masks are required at all times.
