Melvin Hiroshi Zaa's Obituary
Melvin Hiroshi Zaa, age 76, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2020, surrounded by his family. Mel was born in Honolulu to Kame and Haruko Zaa, and was a proud Uchinanchu. He was a member of the US Army and a Vietnam veteran. After his military service, Mel enjoyed a 50-year career as a well-regarded electrician who did impeccable work. He was humble and selfless, and gave freely, never expecting anything in return. He worked hard to provide for others, often working seven days a week throughout his life. Mel will be fondly remembered for his generosity, exceptional work ethic and old school humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Patrick and partner JoAnn Kealoha. Mel is survived by sisters, Irene Hagino (Richard) and Lorraine Ige; daughters, Shawn Zaa and Christine Otto Zaa (John); son, Jon Zaa; and grandchildren, Jacob and Logan. A private service was held recently.
