Michael "Mickey" David Hong's Obituary
Michael David Hong loving husband, father, grandfather, passed away on November 2, 2016 surrounded by family and friends. He leaves behind his wife Geriann; his daughters Linzi (Randy) Lee of Los Altos Hills, Cesily (Franz) Yuen; son Bennett Hong; granddaughters Avery, Tate and Payton Lee; and grandsons Landon Lee and Finn Yuen; his mother Rosalie “Moilee” Hong (104); brother Stephen, and sisters Laurie Wong and Tina Leong; numerous nieces and nephews and cherished friends.
Michael was born on February 26, 1941 to the late Dr. Gilbert Hong, a dentist, and mother Moilee, a homemaker. The third of five children, he grew up in a loving family and attended St. Louis School, the University of Oregon, American University Law School and the Sorbonne, Paris. Michael enjoyed a long and successful career as a self-employed corporate attorney and continued to work until his passing. Michael believed in the power of education and helping to make the community a better place, he served on the board of Hawaii Pacific University, St. Francis Healthcare and assisted with strategic planning at his alma mater St. Louis School. Michael was an avid sportsman and enjoyed football, baseball, tennis, and golfing every Saturday morning with the “boys.” His children and grandchildren were his constant source of pride, and he preferred the name Pops or Dung Dung Daddy. Michael was known as an engaging man who loved to bring people together. It was his firm belief that one’s positive attitude and faith in the goodness of God was at the core of a happy and healthy life. He was a man of possibilities and always encouraged others with his words and actions to never settle for a simple “Yes” or “No” when “Let’s try another way” was a better answer. Michael lived a happy life filled with many unforgettable years, and his legacy lives on in the lives of those he leaves behind. He will remain in our hearts forever.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Diamond Head Mortuary, 535 18th Avenue, on December 1, 2016, visitation at 9:30am, services at 11:30am, inurnment at 12:30pm.
