My memories are so numerous I don't know where to start. Every time I came back to Hawai'i Nei, I looked up Phyllis and Alan and we went out to a restaurant to eat. Even though she was vegetarian, it didn't stop her from treating me to restaurants, including a newly open BRAZILIAN restaurant in Honolulu in which the main dishes consisted mostly of meat. There was also a local style restaurant (behind Ala Moana Center recommended by travel expert, the late Anthony Bourdain. The one event I fondly remember was taking me to the DHARMACHAKRA, (2004) the Annual Buddhist Harvest Moon Festival. A delicious vegetarian noodle dish was served, followed by entertainment @ Ala Moana Park's Center. It was a chance for me to see the different monks with various colors of their clothing from many countries (Japan, China, Cambodia, India, etc.) It is an experience I will never forget. Phyllis and I also discussed the current events of the day, which of course, included happenings in Hawaii and the rest of the country. I also remember a few years earlier when Phyllis came to Seattle to check out Seattle Art Museum's African collection and the gathering I arranged with Seattle Friends to meet her. I last saw Phyllis in 2010, but we stayed in touch and she sent me Hawaii calendars each year (unless I came personally). I am SO thankful of these memories and more of a wonderful friend.
