I will always remember Rachel Omori’s stern guidance at McKiley High School. Her advice has remained with me throughout my life. She was the best.
My condolences to the family, with great appreciation for a most influential and inspirational teacher. Mrs. Omori prepared so many of us at McKinley High School for success in college and beyond. She set a high standard for her students and for herself, and showed us the path to take to higher education and a fruitful life.

Rachel has been a great friend and mentor to me for most of my adult life. I am grateful that she and your father, Morio, chose to share part of their life lessons with me. The most important, and most telling lesson I learned from both of them was love of family.
Godspeed Rachel, you will be missed.

To the family of Rachel Omori: As a secretary I worked with your mother at the UH Arts & Sciences advising office for quite a few years and found your mother to be a classy lady and one who was a joy to work with. She never lost her temper and was fair with everyone. You were lucky to have her as your mother. Losing a family member is always painful, but I imagine she and your father are having a great time together again. My sincerest condolences for your loss.

Mrs. Omori knew how to make people feel special. She invited me to play golf at Waialae on many occasions with Mr. Omori and we also spent weekends at Makaha Resort with my father. I will always remember her uplifting positive personality and smile. Lots of fun, warm memories!

Sharyn and Colleen,
My condolences on the passing of your mom. I visited her a few times at Waiiki St. during past tax filing seasons. She was a very nice lady.

My deepest condolences. I was a student in Rachel Omori's McKinley High School class in 1960. She remains to this day as the most influential teacher I've had. She taught me important lessons of commitment and integrity, which served me well in successful academic and professional careers. I was very privileged to have her help shape my life's journey.

Rachel Omori, my tenth-grade English teacher at McKinley High School, not only was very influential in my decision to become an English teacher myself, but also opened up a world of cultural and academic activities and opportunities I did not know existed until I entered her classroom. She made learning fun and exciting: taking students to the Academy of Arts, setting up College Bowl tournaments and debates after class, coming in on the weekends so that students could finish painting murals of the Crusades. She was "on duty" 24/7 for her students and inspired me to do the same.

I was saddened to hear of Rachel Omori's passing away. I was a student of hers at McKinley in the 1960-1961 school year. I appreciated her efforts to encourage and challenge me and all of her other students. She was an outstanding teacher.
Sharyn, I'm glad I thought recently to call from here on the Mainland expecting to greet your mom as I try to do every several years and hope you were able to share my aloha with her in behalf of the Kauai Hi class of '50 who thought so highly of both your parents. Tho their teaching years on Kaua were all-too-brief, Morio and Rachel left indelible legacies upon us for their interest in us both academically and as impressionable teens eager to accept direction from their life experiences. (I have said many times that, in 16 years of schooling, Mr. Omori was the single most influential teacher in my career track.)
May you daughters and your families accept our sincere condolences. --Ray Smith, Carol Stream, IL
