Ramona Y.Y. Lee Kong
October 10, 1925 – February 4, 2025
On February 4, 2025, Ramona Yuk Yip Lee Kong passed away at 99 years of age peacefully in her sleep at her home in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was a graduate of McKinley High School where she met her husband, Lawrence K.L. Kong. Together, they raised five children while she worked as a secretary – stenographer for the US Naval Department at Pearl Harbor-Hickam, retiring after 30 years. She was heavily involved in multiple community charity organizations, including two Masonic affiliated groups: Order of the Amaranth and Order of the Eastern Star. For over 32 years and well into her nineties, Ramona volunteered for the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, knitting hats for newborns. As a member of the See Dai Doo Society, she served as treasurer, director, trustee and secretary. In 2008, Ramona was a recipient of the prestigious award for Chinese Model Mother of the Year by the United Chinese Society of Hawaii. She was an excellent seamstress and excelled in many handcrafts including crochet, knitting, and making pottery. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents Inn Soong Lee and Moi Yuen Auyong Lee, siblings Mun Chuck Lee and Lurline Siu. She is survived by her sister Lucille Wong of Honolulu, HI; five children, Colleen Kong-Sawyer of San Jose, CA; Wendell Kong (Ellen) of Hollis, NH; Nadine Kong of San Ramon, CA; Kathleen Rodriguez (Rafael) of Honolulu, HI; and Clayton Kong (Gay) of Honolulu, HI; 10 grandchildren, and 5 great - grandchildren. On February 25th private services were held at the Diamond Head Mortuary followed by offering of prayers at Hsu Yun Buddhist Temple in honor of her cultural heritage. A reception for friends and family was held at the residence.
