Richard Yasumasa Nakahara's Obituary
Richard Yasumasa Nakahara, 84, passed away on November 27, 2023. He was born in Honolulu to Kazuyo and Anko Nakahara, owners of the former New Alakea Grill that was located in downtown. He graduated from McKinley High School, earned his bachelor's degree in engineering at UH Manoa, served 32 years for the State of Hawaii/UH Manoa at the Facilities Planning and Management Office as a Structural Engineer where he retired. Richard is survived by his 3 daughters: Tricia Nakahara, Kristy (Joseph) Carpio, and Iris (James) Stremick; 7 grandchildren: Morgan, Reece, Kaden, Leona, Kadie, Naomi, and Isaac; and 2 siblings: George Nakahara, and Carol (Jackson) Nakasone. Richard is predeceased by his beloved wife, Leonara (aka Nora), and sister, Shirley Toyama.
A memorial service celebrating Richard's life will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the Diamond Head Mortuary, 535 18th Ave, Honolulu, HI 96816. Visitation is at 5:00 p.m. Service is at 6:00 p.m. with reception to follow. Casual attire. Inurnment is scheduled for Friday, January 05, 2024, at 9:00am at Diamond Head Memorial Park Cemetery.
