Richard "Dickie" Hiroshi Sagawa's Obituary
With deep sadness and hearts full of cherished memories, we bid a fond Aloha to our beloved husband, dad, and papa, Richard "Dickie" Hiroshi Sagawa. He passed away at Kahala Nui on February 8, 2025, at the age of 83.
Born and raised in Honolulu, he attended Roosevelt High School and the University of Hawaii. He dedicated 40 years to public education in the Hawaii State Department of Education, serving as a teacher, vice-principal, principal, and Director of the Hawaii School Leadership Academy. He was a passionate advocate for public education and found great joy in mentoring fellow educators.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dickie enjoyed coaching community sports, playing golf, tennis, playing the ukulele and gathering with friends and family. He most enjoyed being a fan at his grandchildren's sporting events and activities. His creative spirit, generous heart, and a great sense of humor will continue to inspire and impact the lives of those he touched. He will forever be remembered as a loving and dedicated father, grandfather, husband and friend to many.
He is survived by his wife, Corinne, children Keri Shimomoto (Paul) and Reid Sagawa (Melanie), grandchildren Tanner and Kaitlyn Shimomoto, Madisyn and Brody Sagawa, and brother Allen Sagawa.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday June 5 at Diamond Head Mortuary Chapel. Visitation at 10:00am. Service at 11:00am.
