Roman Marian Walter Furman's Obituary
It is with great sadness to announce the death of Roman Marian Walter Furman, age 62, of Honolulu, Hawaii on Thursday, November 14, 2024. He fought a good and courageous fight with Type-I Diabetes Mellitus (aka Juvenile Diabetes) since he was 3-years old. Earlier this year, Roman was diagnosed with Stage-IV Metastatic Melanoma. His body will be cremated.
Born July 21, 1962 in Los Angeles, Ca. He was the first-born son of the late Sheila Cronin Furman and the late Walter Furman, both from Poland. Roman attended Westchester High School in Los Angeles, California, and graduated in 1980. Upon graduation, he worked as a Mechanic at a Mobil Gas Station and then went on to work at Continental Airlines at Los Angeles International Airport in the Cargo-Freight department.
Roman then moved to Hawaii and was a Field Service Representative with Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) from 1989 to 2024 with 35-years’ service. He started as Mail Clerk, was later promoted to Meter Reader and then progressed to Field Service Representative. On weekends, Roman and his wife Nita enjoyed going to Flea Markets & Garage Sales looking for treasures in vintage and collectible items. Roman loved taking daily walks and strolls down at the beach.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nita Truss-Furman; daughter Baylei Furman of Kaneohe and son Blaine Furman of Los Angeles; one sister, Maria Lowry (husband Larry Lowry) of Minnesota, nephews Brian Lowry and Steve Lowry (wife Cora Lowry), niece Catie Davis (husband Ryan Davis); and stepbrother Robert Furman of Los Angeles.
Please do not send flowers. If you want to give, consider a donation in Roman’s name to the Type-I Diabetes Mellitus to your local charities, which provides support to struggling patients of “juvenile diabetes”. You can also honor his life by getting a melanoma skin cancer exam each year. Early detection saves lives.
Viewing is scheduled Friday, January 10, 2025, from 9:30 AM-10:30 AM with Catholic Prayer Services 10:30 AM to 11:30AM, followed by Bento Kalbi Lunch from 11:30 to 1pm at Diamond Head Mortuary Lanai located at 535 18th Avenue, Honolulu, Hawaii.
