Rosalind Lum's Obituary
Rosalind Akana Lum passed away peacefully on December 7, 2019 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was 98 years old at the time of her passing. Rosalind was born on February 5, 1921 to Ching Sing and Mikala (Kepa'a) Akana in Honolulu and was of Native Hawaiian and Chinese descent. She was the second youngest of 10 siblings and graduated from McKinley High School. Rosalind (Rosie) married Richard Jan Yuen Lum on August 30, 1947 and was married until his passing in 1995. Richard and Rosalind had one daughter, Lisa. Although she had just completed beauty school, Rosie was one of the 350,000 women who joined the war efforts on the home front after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. Rosalind worked for the U.S. Department of Defense as a Housing and Relocations Clerk as a supervisor until her retirement. Rosalind was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her daughter, Lisa Jean Chai Lung Lum Hodges; her parents, and her 9 siblings, being the last of her generation. She is survived by her granddaughters, Jennifer Hodges (Charlie Butt) and Kara Beidler (Shane), as well as her great grand-children; Kaelyn and Braden Beidler; and Kai and Jasper Butt; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Diamond Head Mortuary on January 17, 2020 at 10:00am. Cards and grievances can be sent to the family at:
