Sabina Imbo Plaza McWilliams' Obituary
Sabina Imbo Plaza McWilliams, age 76, passed away in Florida of natural causes, on Saturday, December 1, 2018.
From her birth in Honolulu to her death, she was known for a love of travel, music, the arts, her intelligence, and, most of all, her love of life. A 1960 graduate of Farrington High School, Honolulu, Hawaii, she also attended the University of Hawaii, craved adventure and traveled extensively throughout her life. Sabina’s travels included visits all over the United States, South America and Asia. During her life journey she was born and raised in Honolulu, resided in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, Maryland and Florida. She loved being with family and spent much of her retired years with her children and grandchildren checking out festivals, arts, and local eateries across South Florida and the world. She loved road trips and especially loved her frequent trips to the many parks at Disney World. Her love of family and her hometown of Honolulu found her often traveling to visit, “talk story”, and mostly to enjoy local food and culture. Sabina’s love of adventure and life gave her and those around her so much joy.
She was born August 29, 1942, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to first generation immigrants, Gorgonio and Erenia Imbo Plaza, and was the oldest of three children. She was survived by her brother and sister, Juanita (Plaza) Carter and Alihandro Plaza (who has recently also passed); five children, Theresa (Terry) Lynelle Viergutz, Yvette Cooley, Judith (Judy) Marie Erenia Pugatch, Barbara Colleen McWilliams, and Robert (Rob) Paul McWilliams; eight grandchildren, Maile, Leanne, David, Michael (Mike), Jonthan (Jon), Breanna, Nicholas (Nick), and Alana; three great grandchildren, Olina, Miguel, and Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews. Sabina will be remembered for her smile, her laugh, and the light and joy she brought to her communities.
Sabina will be placed to rest at Diamond Head Memorial Park on Saturday, March 23rd at 10:30 am. Friends and family are invited to Celebration of Life to be held shortly after at the Diamond Head Mortuary Honolulu, Hawaii. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Sabina’s name to Palama Settlement (www.palamasettlement.org), 810 North Vineyard Blvd, Honolulu, Hawaii 96817.
