I moved to Hawaii around the same time as my cousin Steve and his wife Pat. We shared many of the same experiences and ideas while getting to know about life in the islands. Steve always welcomed my visits to their home in Makakilo and included me as part of his leeward community & friends. We shared many good times here including some holidays together. After the Kapolei Christmas Parade one year, it started raining hard and we all ran together for a long ways to get to his car. We still laughed about that many times. The lagoons at Ko'olina will always be the place I will remember Steve, because here, I always found him in his element. He was a true waterman who knew his way on and off the surfboard, snorkeling, or just catching some rays. He was a fixture swimming 8 - 12 laps a day, and had a particular spot on the sand where I still can see him now. I am equally grateful for all the times he and Pat came to visit me including as my support team for the Honolulu Triathlon & helping me scout locations and organize the travel2change charity event for United Airlines. Steve, I miss you, and on my weekend runs around Diamondhead, I will stop in to visit your beautiful memorial, as I am here now with such a perfect place for reflection. My sincerest gratitude to Pat who gave her complete heart to Stephen. You are an angel. God bless you both.
My sincere condolences to your family. May you find comfort found in the words of Isaiah 25:8
Stephen will be missed everyday by all of his friends from Lagoon 4 at Ko'Olina, it was a pleasure to know him and he made us laugh everyday. Suzanne & Tom Haverty and Frances Swike.
