Steven Koon Sun Chang's Obituary
Steven Koon Sun Chang passed on July 12, 2026, at the age of 73. Born and raised in Honolulu, Steve was the third of four siblings and grew up surrounded by a large extended family. He graduated from Punahou High School and later earned his law degree from the University of Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law.
He met his wife, Joanne Dougherty nearly 50 years ago and they were the proud parents of their daughter, Kelly. Steve served with the State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General before retiring to devote more time to his many passions. He enjoyed playing golf with friends, traveling the world, experiencing nature, enjoying fine dining, and listening avidly to public radio. A self-proclaimed World War II buff, he had a deep interest in history and politics.
Steve is survived by his wife, Joanne Dougherty; his daughter, Kelly Chang; his siblings, Lindley, Kenneth and Patti; his aunts, Violet Pang and Betty Chang; and his nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Diamond Head Mortuary on August 3, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Steve’s memory to the Hawaiian Humane Society or PBS Hawai'i.
