Sylvia Fong Choy's Obituary
Celebrating the life of Sylvia F. Choy who was born on February 10, 1926 in Sacramento, CA. to her parents, Mr. Fong Ken Chong and Mrs. Lang See. She was the 5th child of 6 children and was the last survivor among her siblings.
She attended high school and was working in a restaurant in Sacramento when she met her future husband, Wilfred K.W. Choy, while he was waiting to be discharged from the U.S. Army in Marysville, CA, in August 1945; they got married after a whirlwind dating relationship and moved to Honolulu via a cruise aboard the old Lurline Ship Liner where she resided until her death on December 13, 2018.
Sylvia and Wilfred had three children, Laishung C. Choy (the late, Bradley Skinner), Martin G. Choy, and Gordon E. Choy (Ying Hua Guo), a granddaughter Tiarra Hoyt (Kumau Pineta) and great-granddaughter Kealani Pineta.
She worked as a waitress in several Chinese restaurants, most notably, the Oceania Floating Restaurant and later, before her retirement, at the old Hong Kung Restaurant.
She and her husband always enjoyed trips to visit her siblings in Sacramento and fun trips to Las Vegas where she was fortunate to be blessed with the lucky genes. They also joined some other travel tours nationally and internationally during their retirement years. She was generous to a fault and made friends with people easily.
Private services will be held.
